Abstract: This study examines the role of the Companions, the Successors, and the Successors of the Successors in learning and teaching the Qur’an and transmitting its modes of recitation. It also introduces prominent recitation teachers and their connections with the canonical reciters and their transmitters. The study adopts an inductive descriptive approach supported by historical analysis, tracing biographical accounts in works on reciters’ generations and commentaries on al-Shatibiyyah and al-Durrah. It compares information concerning names, teachers, transmitters, and teaching centres. The discussion follows the development of oral transmission in Medina, Mecca, Kufa, Basra, and the Levant, and presents the seven canonical reciters and the three who complete the ten, together with their transmitters, as a continuation of the earliest Qur’anic teaching traditions. It distinguishes their generations rather than classifying all later transmitters as Successors. The analysis highlights direct oral instruction and recitation before qualified teachers as foundations of accurate performance. Attribution of a reading to an imam reflects his recognised mastery and teaching of that reading, rather than its invention. The study also identifies the contribution of regional teaching centres, scholarly travel, and written compilation to the continuity of transmission. It stresses the distinction between the seven ahruf and the seven canonical readings, and between a reading, a transmission, and a transmission route. It recommends using critically edited sources, documenting teaching chains, and developing educational materials that combine biographical knowledge with practical recitation training.

Keywords: Qur’anic readings; Qur’anic recitation teaching; Companions; Successors; chains of transmission.
