Abstract: This study examines how videographics are used in television news and compares the formats, techniques, and media elements employed by four Iraqi and Arab satellite channels. Using descriptive analytical and comparative approaches, it analyzes a purposive sample of main news bulletins broadcast by the Iraqi channels Al-Iraqiya and Al-Sharqiya and the Arab channels Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya between January 1 and March 1, 2026. A content analysis form covered news topics, presentation formats, duration, and the media elements used in videographic production. The instrument’s reliability coefficient, calculated using Holsti’s formula, was 87%. The findings reveal differences in the use of videographics across the four channels. Al Jazeera ranked highest on several measures of use, while Al-Iraqiya ranked behind the other channels in the sample. Videographics featured prominently in political and economic news and in coverage of current and breaking events. Short segments, particularly those lasting less than one minute, were also common. Their production combined elements such as brief on-screen text, voiceovers, graphic illustrations, and visual effects. The study concludes that integrating these elements helps clarify information and present news in an engaging format. It recommends further training for media professionals and media students in designing and producing videographics for television news.
