Abstract: This study examines indicators of fake news and information verification mechanisms on news websites through a content analysis of Al Jazeera’s website. It adopts a descriptive analytical approach, using a coding form to examine a purposive sample of 60 news items published on March 1, 20, and 30, 2026. Items were classified by topic, credibility, source, presentation style, and geographical scope, using frequencies and percentages. Political news accounted for 41.7% of the sample, while internationally focused items represented 58.3%. Under the study’s classification criteria, 63.3% of items were categorized as factual, 25% as questionable, and 11.7% as potentially fabricated. Media sources accounted for 46.7% of items and official sources for 36.7%, whereas 16.6% had no identified source. Half of the items used a direct presentation style. These findings highlight the importance of verifying sources, context, and visual content before publication. Questionable or potentially fabricated classifications indicate a need for verification and do not independently establish deliberate deception. The study recommends developing newsroom verification units, training journalists in digital verification tools, and strengthening public media literacy, while acknowledging the limits of generalizing from a purposive sample.
