Fadil al-Samarrai\u2019s Ma\u02bfani al-Nahw, focusing on his objections to inherited grammatical classifications. A descriptive, analytical and comparative approach is used to examine his arguments alongside classical grammarians\u2019 views and contextual readings of Qur\u2019anic and poetic evidence. The analysis addresses omission of the governing verb, verbal nouns substituting for verbs, sentence-confirming verbal nouns, and the relationship between emphasis and figurative meaning. The findings show that emphasis primarily concerns the event denoted by the verb, while different verbal-noun functions require distinct omission rules. Sentence-confirming verbal nouns need clearer classification, and emphasis does not invariably eliminate figurative meaning. Omission may also broaden meaning through contextual cues.
