direction:ltr;'><strong>Abstract: <\/strong> This study examines an important principle of Qur\u2019anic exegesis: interpreting Qur\u2019anic expressions according to their general meaning unless there is valid evidence requiring specification. The study addresses the problem of multiple exegetical opinions on a single verse, which may lead readers to assume contradiction or inconsistency, especially when some statements indicate that a verse was revealed concerning specific individuals or incidents. The study aims to clarify the principles governing generality in Qur\u2019anic interpretation, identify its causes, and explain its impact on understanding the Qur\u2019anic text and directing the statements of exegetes, particularly those of the early scholars. The study adopts an inductive analytical approach by examining selected examples from exegetical works and explaining their relationship to the principle of generality and specification, while distinguishing between interpretive diversity and real contradiction. The study concludes that the original nature of Qur\u2019anic discourse is generality and comprehensiveness, and that specification should not be accepted without valid evidence. It also finds that many statements of the early exegetes are not intended to restrict the meaning, but rather to provide examples or to apply a general meaning to some of its individual cases.
