direction:ltr;'><strong>Abstract: <\/strong> This study examines the phenomenon of the Janjaweed militias and their role in the armed conflict in the Darfur region during the period (2003\u20132013), through an analysis of their historical and social roots and a tracing of their evolution as a principal actor in the dynamics of the conflict. The study aims to explain the emergence of these militias within the context of cumulative developments that have shaped the region since the 1980s, particularly political marginalization, environmental degradation, the intensification of competition over resources, and the proliferation of arms.\r\nThe study demonstrates that the Janjaweed were not merely irregular armed groups, but evolved into an organized paramilitary force that played a central role in field operations through coordinated offensive patterns, which contributed to the escalation and expansion of violence and resulted in widespread humanitarian consequences.
