direction:ltr;'><strong>Abstract: <\/strong> This study examines British policy toward Belize and the path to self-government between 1961 and 1964 within the broader context of post-World War II decolonization, highlighting Britain\u2019s gradual transfer of authority in order to preserve its strategic interests in the Caribbean while responding to local political demands, particularly those led by George Price and the People\u2019s United Party, which played a central role in promoting constitutional reforms and expanding political participation, as well as the impact of the 1961 Constitution and Hurricane Hattie (31 October 1961) in accelerating administrative and political reforms during 1962\u20131963, ultimately leading to the granting of internal self-government in 1964, while Britain retained control over defense and foreign affairs due to the territorial dispute with Guatemala, demonstrating that British policy relied on gradual decolonization mechanisms aimed at maintaining stability and preserving influence within the Commonwealth framework.<\/p><p style='direction:ltr;
