seeks to explore the manifestations of renewal in the poetry of Abu Nuwas and to examine their connection with his Shu\u02bfubi tendency and the intellectual and civilizational transformations of the Abbasid era. The study is based on a central research problem: Was Abu Nuwas a Shu\u02bfubi poet? And what are the most prominent manifestations of renewal in his poetry? The study adopts the descriptive-analytical method by analyzing selected poetic examples from Abu Nuwas\u2019s works and tracing the influence of the Abbasid environment, with its civilizational openness and intellectual debate, on the formation of his poetic and intellectual vision. The study discusses the relationship between Abu Nuwas\u2019s poetry and Islamic theology and logic, the manifestations of Shu\u02bfubiyya in his poetry\u2014particularly his attitude toward Bedouin Arab life and his tendency to glorify Abbasid urban life\u2014as well as the aspects of renewal in his language, themes, and poetic imagery. These include, most notably, his rejection of the traditional nasib and standing by the ruins, his development of wine poetry, and his inclination toward depicting the new urban reality. The study concludes that Abu Nuwas represents a prominent model of the innovative Abbasid poet, as he moved beyond the traditional frameworks of Arabic poetry and linked poetry to the realities and transformations of his age. His poetry also reveals the impact of the civilizational conflict between Arabs and non-Arabs in advancing Arabic poetry toward renewal and flourishing.
