style='text-align:justify; direction:ltr;'><strong>Abstract: <\/strong> This study examines formal defenses not related to public order in Jordanian civil legislation in terms of their concept, legal nature, conditions for acceptance, and procedural effects, with particular focus on the provisions of the Jordanian Civil Procedure Law and its amendments. The study aims to clarify the role these defenses play in regulating the course of judicial proceedings and protecting the interests of litigants without affecting the substantive right underlying the dispute. The study adopts a descriptive analytical approach by analyzing relevant legal texts and reviewing judicial precedents and jurisprudential opinions related to formal defenses. The study shows that such defenses, including the defense of lack of territorial jurisdiction, the defense based on the existence of an arbitration clause, the defense of invalidity of notification papers, and the defense of limitation, are governed by precise procedural requirements relating to legal interest, time limits, order of submission, and presentation in a separate application before addressing the merits of the case. The study also reveals several practical and legislative issues, most notably the lack of harmony among certain provisions of the Jordanian Civil Procedure Law, especially those concerning the submission of the statement of defense and formal defenses, in addition to the apparent conflict between the Civil Code and the Civil Procedure Law regarding the legal nature of the defense of limitation and the time at which it may be raised. The study concludes that formal defenses not related to public order constitute an important procedural mechanism for achieving a balance between the litigant\u2019s right of defense and the stability of judicial proceedings.
